Taoyuan Patina Copper Kettle

$202.99

The Taoyuan Patina Copper Kettle is meticulously handcrafted from pure copper, featuring a traditional patina finish that enhances its warm, rich antique hue. The body is full and rounded, with smooth flowing lines, carefully hammered by artisans to create a delicate, textured surface. This hammered pattern not only adds depth and dimension but also allows light to dance across the surface, creating a captivating interplay of reflections. The lid is adorned with a peach-shaped finial, symbolizing longevity and prosperity, while the arched handle ensures a comfortable grip and complements the kettle’s natural, rustic charm.

Design Highlights

  • Refined Patina Finish: High-temperature patina treatment gives the copper a deep, aged bronze tone. Over time, it will develop a unique patina, enhancing its character and beauty.
  • Hand-Hammered Texture: The surface is meticulously crafted through traditional hammering techniques, creating an organic, irregular pattern that enhances both visual appeal and heat dissipation.
  • Peach-Shaped Lid Finial: The intricately carved peach motif symbolizes longevity and auspiciousness, harmonizing with the kettle’s overall aesthetic while adding a touch of refinement.
  • Efficient Heat Conduction: The pure copper body ensures rapid and even heat distribution, improving water quality and enhancing the flavor of brewed tea.

This Taoyuan Patina Copper Kettle seamlessly blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics, making it not just a practical water-heating vessel but also a tea ceremony centerpiece that embodies cultural elegance. Whether used for brewing or as a decorative tea accessory, it brings a serene, timeless charm to any tea session.

Please Note: As this kettle is entirely handcrafted, minor imperfections such as oxidation marks and fine scratches may be present. These are natural characteristics of artisanal copperware and contribute to its unique charm. Your understanding is appreciated.

Description

Method for Seasoning a Copper Kettle:

  1. Waking the Kettle: Fill the kettle with cold water and bring it to a boil. Discard the water and repeat twice. Then, pour in rice-washed water, bring it to a boil, and discard it. Repeat twice. Wipe the kettle with a damp tea cloth. Finally, fill it with cold water, bring it to a boil, discard the water, and repeat twice.
  2. Tempering the Kettle: Through a short dry-burn process (about 10 seconds), the copper kettle is further refined and purified. The body of the kettle will change color. Pour in a small amount of tea water and swirl it around to remove impurities. (Use an open flame, separate the body and lid. Rotate the kettle body evenly while dry-burning for about 10 seconds or until the body turns yellow. Avoid excessive burning, as it may turn black.)
  3. Soaking: Add 5-8g of black tea into the copper kettle, bring the tea water to a boil over low heat, and continue boiling for another 10 minutes before discarding the water.
  4. Drying: Remove the lid and let the residual heat dry the kettle. During daily use, the kettle will develop a natural patina, and the boiled water will become softer and sweeter.

Maintenance:

  1. Store the copper kettle in a dry, well-ventilated place and avoid direct contact with acidic substances. Over time, the inner wall of pure copper kettles will turn black due to oxidation, which is a natural characteristic of copper and does not affect its use.
  2. After use, wipe the kettle dry. If it will not be used for more than four days, store it in a dry place.
  3. Avoid dry burning. Excessive heat or prolonged exposure will cause the surface color to fade and may damage the heat-resistant rope on the handle.
  4. To restore the color of the interior, apply vinegar (or lemon juice) mixed with salt and scrub with a scouring pad. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. However, since the exterior has been pre-oxidized, this method is not recommended for the outer surface.

Characteristics of Copper Kettles:

  • Antibacterial and Sterilizing: Water stored in a copper kettle remains fresh and does not spoil easily over several days.
  • Sweeter Boiled Water: Water boiled in a copper kettle becomes mildly alkaline, resulting in a softer and sweeter taste.
  • Richer Tea Flavor: Copper kettles conduct heat quickly, reaching higher temperatures, which releases copper elements that enhance the richness and aroma of tea.
  • Darkened Inner Wall: The black layer inside the kettle is formed due to oxidation from heating, a natural characteristic of pure copper.
