Guangxi is a region known for its lush subtropical landscapes, rich ethnic traditions and a tea culture shaped by both fragrance and depth. From the jasmine fields of Hengxian to the ancient fermentation workshops of Wuzhou, Guangxi produces teas that are expressive, aromatic and deeply rooted in local craftsmanship.
Guangxi: Land of Rivers, Hills and Fragrance
Located in southern China, Guangxi features a dramatic blend of limestone mountains, winding rivers and humid valleys. Its subtropical monsoon climate provides warm temperatures, abundant rainfall and dense vegetation — perfect conditions for growing both tea and jasmine flowers. These landscapes give Guangxi tea a naturally smooth, refreshing quality, supported by rich biodiversity and clean mountain air.
Tea Heritage and Local Traditions
Guangxi’s tea culture is influenced by centuries of trade, agriculture and ethnic diversity. Various tea-drinking customs from Zhuang, Miao and Yao communities have shaped the region’s habits and preferences. Guangxi became especially famous for two distinct tea traditions: highly fragrant jasmine tea and earthy, aged dark tea known as Liu Bao. Each reflects a different aspect of the region — one floral and elegant, the other grounded and warming.
Hengxian: China’s Jasmine Capital
Hengxian County in Guangxi is widely recognised as the largest jasmine-producing area in China. Its warm climate, fertile soil and long growing season create ideal conditions for developing strong, sweet jasmine blooms. This makes Guangxi the beating heart of China’s jasmine tea industry.
At Hey China, we offer several Guangxi jasmine teas, including Jasmine Mao Jian, Jasmine Bai Yu Luo, and Jasmine Girl’s Ring (Nv’er Huan). These teas are scented through a traditional multi-round process in which freshly harvested jasmine flowers are layered with tea leaves, allowing the fragrance to infuse naturally. Guangxi’s jasmine teas are known for their clean aroma, soft sweetness and refreshing taste.Wuzhou: Birthplace of Liu Bao Dark Tea
In eastern Guangxi lies Wuzhou, home of Liu Bao, an aged dark tea with a long history. Liu Bao is fermented using traditional techniques that develop a mellow, earthy flavour and a comforting, warming character. It is often recognised by its smooth texture and the distinctive ‘betel nut aroma’ that develops over time.
We offer 2019 San He Liu Bao Dark Tea, a representation of Guangxi’s deep fermentation traditions. Liu Bao has long been enjoyed for its grounding, restorative qualities and is valued throughout Southeast Asia for its ability to age gracefully.Guangxi’s Signature Tea Styles
